Dinner And A Movie

 

"Beauty Sickness"

Inspired by the movie The Substance

This photograph is meant to reflect the pressures that come with being in the spotlight and beauty standards. It is especially meant to emphasize the experience that women have with this subject matter. I wanted this photograph to communicate the sense of obsession and franticness that women feel surrounding their looks. I decided on an empty plate to show that someone may not engage with what their body actually needs to stay healthy, like food. They will rather focus on things that make their physical appearance more appealing, represented by makeup brushes, lipstick, tweezers, etc. I used lighting that looked like a spotlight and would reflect well onto the sequins and glitter in the image. I decided on this to showcase celebrities and how they want to be perceived as glamorous and beautiful. The vase of roses is representative of again. The bright red "perfect" roses are fake and made of plastic. The roses that are dying and falling apart are real. With this perspective, they may represent the person. They also show that as someone gets older, they receive less praise and attention. The dead roses could show someone who is still holding onto that glory even though they are no longer receiving it.

A Few Of My Favorite Things

1. Digital camera. I love to capture my favorite moments so I can look back and reminisce. 

2. Shells. I love nothing more than looking for the prettiest shells at the beach. I like finding the most colorful or interesting ones and decorating my room with them. 

3. Playing cards. Passing the time by playing a card game with my friends and family or alone is one of my favorite things. These were from a deck I took from home.

4. Dr. Pepper. My favorite beverage is an ice-cold Dr. Pepper. I would drink only this for the rest of my life if I could.

5. Ribbon. This represents my love of crafting, art, and making things my own by adorning them with little embellishes. 

6. Hershey's Kisses. I snack on sweets all the time. Chocolate is my favorite.
